Matthew Roberson is an experienced and accomplished trial lawyer. Matt has more than a decade of litigation experience, serving as lead counsel in over 80 trials in all of the Northern Virginia jurisdictions, as well as multiple courts in central Virginia, the Tidewater region, and the District of Columbia. He is a skilled appellate advocate as well, having prepared briefs for all of the state appellate courts in Virginia and DC, and having argued before the Virginia Court of Appeals.

Upon completing a judicial clerkship with Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Charles J. Maxfield, Matt joined McGavin, Boyce, Bardot, Thorsen & Katz, P.C., where he spent 10 years defending personal injury and other civil claims, as well as defending administrative matters before Virginia and DC professional licensing boards. He has been repeatedly recognized by Virginia Super Lawyers, and in 2021 by Virginia Business Magazine as Virginia Elite in Civil Litigation. Matt is an active member of the Fairfax and Virginia State Bar Associations.

Joining the firm in 2024, Matt has the trial experience, analytical skills, and passion for success that are the hallmarks of the firm’s attorneys. His extensive experience defending personal injury claims provides unique insight into how insurance companies and defense counsel approach these cases, and allows him to be more effective in representing injured clients as they attempt to obtain justice.

Matt earned his law degree at the George Washington University Law School, where he was an active member on the Mock Trial team. He is admitted to the Virginia, District of Columbia, and New York bars. Having spent most of his early years outside Atlanta, Matt attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated summa cum laude with degrees in international affairs and Spanish. He was a letterman on the university’s cross country and track and field teams and served as a team captain for the cross country team. He maintains a sufficient level of Spanish proficiency such that he can comfortably meet with and represent clients with no English ability. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing chess, and traveling.
