Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries

Regrettably, thousands of people suffer life-changing, irreparable Brain & Spinal Cord injuries every year…

And with each such injury, a person is lost…and a new, different, often limited individual comes into existence.

Brain & Spinal Cord injuries can come from a wide variety of causes, including:

  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Medical negligence
  • Slips & falls
  • Construction accidents
  • Disease
  • Violence or excessive force
  • Sports accidents
  • and others.

Our Brains define who we are as individuals…and distinguish us as a species

Every one of our senses–taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound, as well as our thoughts & emotions–depends upon proper Brain function.

“Men ought to know that from the brain arise our pleasures, joys, laughter, and jests, as well as our sorrows, pains, griefs, and fears. Through it, in particular, we think, see, hear, and distinguish the ugly from the beautiful, the bad from the good, the pleasant from the unpleasant.”

Hippocrates

At Frei, Mims and Perushek, we are well-educated and experienced in the realities of brain injury. We provide competent legal representation to ensure that the truly-injured receive the support and compensation they need and deserve for their past, present, and future losses.

The Spinal Cord is the Brain’s Messenger System…delivering commands to different parts of the body

The spinal cord is very fragile…and consists of a bundle of nerves–surrounded & protected by vertebrae (commonly referred to as the ‘backbone’)–that runs from the base of the brain down the back. In most spinal cord injuries, the backbone pinches the spinal cord, causing it to become bruised & swollen. Sometimes the injury may tear the spinal cord and/or its nerve fibers. After a spinal cord injury, all the nerves above the level of injury keep working like they always have. But from the point of injury and below, the spinal cord nerves can no longer send messages between the brain and important parts of the body.
