Wrongful Death
When someone dies as the result of the negligence of others it is called Wrongful Death
Virginia law now recognizes that there is no true reparation for wrongful death…therefore, there is no dollar limit on the amount that may be recovered
Current law stipulates that only beneficiaries are entitled to recover money…
- For a child, it is the parents and brothers & sisters.
- For a parent, it is the spouse and children.
- The recoverable amount is determined by statute, and generally includes the loss of support (wages for a spouse & children dependent upon them), companionship, and advice.
Sadly, we have extensive experience with wrongful death lawsuits. We believe that our responsibility to our clients extends beyond the lawsuit, to include estate administration, grief counseling, and other assistance for the families.
There is no reparation for the loss of a loved one. However, Frei, Mims and Perushek fights vigorously to help families receive compensation that will help them survive the loss.
Click here for a few examples of how Frei, Mims and Perushek has helped victims of wrongful death:
- $4.577 million for a family who lost their son when a train struck their home.
- $3.05 million for the loss of a husband and father in an automobile crash on I-95.
- $1.5 million for the loss of a mother and wife when struck by a dump-truck on Route 28.
